“Niggas kill me!” I lit the dutch and took a pull. My head was pounding because I was vexed.

“Fuck dat nigga Cream, he don’t know you. Who is this nigga anyway?” asked Melly. Melissa, or Melly as I called her, was my best friend since middle school. She was the only chick I ever trusted or fucked with. I learned early how petty and jealous bitches can be especially when you look like me. I’m not conceited or anything, but I was always the prettiest girl around. I never acted stuck up or thought I was better than anyone but I always had confidence and wanted more out of life. When I met Melly, we instantly connected. We both had dreams and goals and she’s the only person I know who doesn’t judge me.

“His name is Caine and we met at the club a few days ago. I don’t know what it is about him girl, but I can’t stop thinking about his sexy ass.” My head was pounding again so I had Mel pull over so I could grab another dutch and some aspirin. We parked on the corner of Main and Westland and I hopped out. I was so caught up in my feelings, I didn’t even notice the fact that we were in Bay Ridge, which was Caine’s hood.

“What up doe?” When I heard those words, my stomach fluttered and my heart began to race. I’d know that voice anywhere, it’s been playing over and over in my dreams the last few nights. I didn’t even turn around, I quickened my pace and entered the store. I prayed he wouldn’t follow me in but God don’t answer my prayers anymore!

“Oh, it’s like that?” he asked. He reached out and grabbed me so I turned around and smacked him in his face.

“Get the fuck up off me!”I backed up, giving myself room to maneuver just in case he chose to swing on me; can’t trust a hood nigga. Caine just smiled, giving me life with those white teeth and dimples. I hated him so much at that moment. Not because he thought he was better than me, I hated him because I knew he was right. The club life was not for me, I just wanted that fast money. It was getting harder and harder to fight off those creepy old men, smiling up in the faces of all those fake ass bitches, or looking myself in the mirror everyday. I never tricked or did more than just dance in the club, but I did go out with some of the wealthier clients. I slept with one for tuition when my financial aid fell through but I’m not proud of it; I’m not ashamed either.

“I’m sorry Cream, you know I ain’t mean that shit. I can’t front like what you do don’t bother me but I ain’t have the right to come at you like that, feel me?” I could tell he was sincere, it meant a lot that he apologized.
